Baseball Game Preview: Kenton Wildcats vs. Elgin Comets

The Kenton Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Elgin Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Kenton has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Elgin will arrive with three straight wins.

Shawnee hit Kenton with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Elgin ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Temple Christian 5-4.

Elgin let Xavier Compton and Peyton Zempter run wild. Compton went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one triple, while Zempter got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Elgin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Temple Christian only managed six.

Kenton's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Elgin, their record is now 5-3-1.

Kenton came out on top in a nail-biter against Elgin in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
