The Loyalton Grizzlies are taking a road trip to square off against the Portola Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Friday, Loyalton got the win against Plumas Charter by a conclusive 10-3. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Thor Corcoran made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Gus Petterson and Chance Edwards did most of the damage at the plate: Petterson went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Edwards went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Edwards has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryland Martinetti, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Loyalton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plumas Charter only posted an OBP of .261.
Meanwhile, Portola never let their opponents score on Friday. They didn't even let Williams on the board, marking the Tigers' second-straight 15-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won five in a row.
Emery Powell was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. He has become a key player for Portola: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 5-11 otherwise. Ricky Richardson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Loyalton is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Portola, their record is now 7-12.
Everything went Loyalton's way against Portola in their previous meeting back in April, as Loyalton made off with an 8-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
