Baseball Game Preview: St. Peter Saints vs. Mound-Westonka White Hawks

The St. Peter Saints will square off against the Mound-Westonka White Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Peter has nine straight victories, Mound-Westonka has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If St. Peter beats Mound-Westonka with six runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Saints beat Belle Plaine on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-2. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Mound-Westonka couldn't beat Holy Family Catholic on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The White Hawks lost 15-7 to the Fire. That's two games in a row now that the White Hawks have lost by exactly eight runs.

Reese Matheny was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

St. Peter pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mound-Westonka, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

St. Peter beat Mound-Westonka 5-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the White Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
