Softball Recap: Rocky River Wins Going Away Against Lakewood

Rocky River lost to Lakewood back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Pirates blew past the Rangers 9-1. Considering the Pirates have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Reagan Kane made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Maggie Heigle was incredible, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Maddie Sollars, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Rocky River is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lakewood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5.

Coming up, Rocky River will look to defend their home field on Friday against Strongsville at 5:00 p.m. As for Lakewood, they will venture away from home to face off against North at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
