Basketball Recap: John Pearson Key Part of a Team Effort in Indians Win

There's no place like home for Santa Fe, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Texas City Stingarees 47-45. For the Indians, this counts as revenge for the 55-46 victory the Stingarees walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Santa Fe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but John Pearson led the charge by putting up nine points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kaidan Mata, who posted ten points.

Santa Fe was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Texas City only posted three assists.

When it comes to explaining why Texas City lost on Tuesday, don't look at Trevor Gregory. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 13 on his way to 21 points. Gregory's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristen Blackmon, who had nine points and seven rebounds.

Santa Fe's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 10-14. As for Texas City, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-16.

Santa Fe will head out to face off against Ball at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Fe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season. As for Texas City, they will host Angleton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
