Edison is 1-9 against Madera since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Tigers will host the Coyotes at 3:31 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Edison 3.3, Madera 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Edison took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over Sanger West. With that win, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Alexis Verduzco was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched. Verduzco was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Edison got a massive performance out of Lauren Jones, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Jones has posted since back in March. Neveah Palomero was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Edison kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Madera came up short against Clovis East last Tuesday and fell 5-1. The Coyotes haven't had much luck with the Timberwolves recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Madera saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kearney Opfergelt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Edison pushed their record up to 11-6 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Madera, their loss dropped their record down to 13-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Edison has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Madera struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Edison might still be hurting after the 20-5 defeat they got from Madera in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
