Softball Recap: Hamden Hall Country Day Victorious

The Hamden Hall Country Day Hornets were able to grind out a solid win over the Greens Farms Academy Dragons on Wednesday, taking the game 11-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hornets.

Chloe Carling made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Melanie Carling and Caitlin Leslie did most of the damage at the plate: Melanie went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Leslie went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run. Kristina Carlson was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.

Hamden Hall Country Day was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greens Farms Academy only posted a batting average of .214.

Hamden Hall Country Day now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Greens Farms Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hamden Hall Country Day will square off against Hopkins at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Greens Farms Academy, they will challenge Taft School at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Big Red have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.29 runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
