Softball Game Recap: Portsmouth West Senators vs. Eastern Eagles

Portsmouth West and Eastern squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Portsmouth West had to settle for second. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (4-3), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 10-9.

Layla Kamer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ariane Jordan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kylee McCleese, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Portsmouth West has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-12 record this season. As for Eastern, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 21-7.

Portsmouth West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Eastern, they will face off against West Jefferson at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.6, the Roughriders 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
