Basketball Recap: Gentry Takes a Loss

If Gentry was riding high fresh off their 49-26 takedown of Edwards last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gentry Rams fell to the Cleveland Central Wolves 40-35. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Wolves are ranked 50th).

When it comes to explaining why Gentry lost on Tuesday, don't look at Zion Brown. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 boards. That's the most points Brown has posted since back in November of 2024. Aniya Williams was another key player, putting up two points and ten rebounds.

Gentry has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Cleveland Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gentry will host Canton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Canton will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Gentry surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cleveland Central, they will be playing at home against Yazoo City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
