Basketball Recap: Osmond/Randolph Hawks vs. Winside Wildcats
The Osmond/Randolph Hawks scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 51-24 win over Winside at home. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Osmond/Randolph as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Osmond/Randolph was led to victory by Ella Scott and Keli Aschoff. Scott scored 15 points along with four steals, while Aschoff almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Scott scored 15 or more points. Sophie Gansebom was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals and two blocks.
Winside's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ellie Topp, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadleigh Schutt, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Osmond/Randolph's victory bumped their record up to 4-14. As for Winside, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with that defeat, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Osmond/Randolph will take on the Blujays at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Walthill is ranked 267th, while the Hawks are ranked 244th). As for Winside, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on January 31st. Hopefully Wausa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Tuesday.
