Basketball Recap: Zayden Mercer and Dereion Mitchell Secure Win for Hearne

Hearne had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 58-48 win over the Marlin Bulldogs on Monday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Leading Hearne to victory were Dereion Mitchell and Zayden Mercer. Mitchell went 9-for-14 en route to 20 points and eight rebounds, while Mercer posted seven points along with 12 boards and seven assists. That's the most boards Mercer has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kellen Bowser, who earned seven points in addition to 11 rebounds and five assists.

Hearne's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 29-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points over those games. As for Marlin, the loss snapped their winning streak at 17 games and leaves them with a 24-5 record.

As of now, neither Hearne nor Marlin have any future games scheduled.
