The Magdalena Steers will square off against the Cimarron Rams at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Magdalena has three straight victories, Cimarron has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Magdalena's win against Logan wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Steers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Longhorns on Monday. That's two games straight that the Steers have won by just one run.
Mathew Lopez was excellent, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Daymen Castagnetto, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Cimarron came up short against Grady on Tuesday, falling 24-7.
Cimarron saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Gonzales, who fired off three home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Gonzales also scored three runs, which is notable because the Rams are 8-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Another was Rickie Aguilar, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.
Magdalena's win bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Cimarron, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Magdalena has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Cimarron struggles in that department as they've averaged .510. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
