Softball Game Preview: Abernathy Antelopes vs. New Deal Lions

For the second straight game, Abernathy will face off against New Deal. Abernathy is taking a road trip to challenge New Deal at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Abernathy has four straight wins, New Deal has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, Abernathy got the win against New Deal by a conclusive 16-6. The result was nothing new for the Antelopes, who have now won eight matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Lily Adames made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Bryer Cook was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Mallory Gonzalez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Abernathy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive games.

Abernathy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for New Deal, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
