Basketball Recap: Haxtun's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Haxtun had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.2 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They walked away with a 65-53 win over the Sedgwick County Cougars. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 51-46 back in December of 2024.

Haxtun's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madden Larsen led the charge by putting up 22 points in addition to six assists and six boards. Those six assists gave Larsen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Goddard, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Sedgwick County lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Noah Harens, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last four games he's played. Tate Renquist was another key player, posting 20 points.

Haxtun pushed their record up to 12-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points over those games. As for Sedgwick County, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.

Haxtun wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 55-43 win against Limon on the 26th. As for Sedgwick County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-47 defeat against Lotus School For Excellence on the 22nd.
