Football Game Preview: Spanish Springs Cougars vs. Galena Grizzlies

The Spanish Springs Cougars will face off against the Galena Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Spanish Springs has nine straight wins, Galena has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Spanish Springs is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Bishop Manogue, who was ranked eighth at the time (Spanish Springs was ranked second). The Cougars took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 46-14 victory over the Miners. Considering the Cougars have won eight games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Spanish Springs got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cooper Milligan out in front who rushed for 78 yards and one TD, and also picked up 45 receiving yards and one score. Tyson McNeil was another key signal caller, throwing for 189 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76% of his passes.

Spanish Springs didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Bishop Manogue to a completion percentage of just 33.3%. The Cougars weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 76.9%.

Spanish Springs didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. It was a group effort, with five picking up one apiece.

Meanwhile, Galena played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 53-10 loss at the hands of Douglas. The Grizzlies were already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.

Spanish Springs' victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Galena, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Everything came up roses for Spanish Springs against Galena in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, as the team secured a 41-9 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
