Baseball Game Preview: Covington Buccs vs. Bethel Bees

The Covington Buccs will head out on the road to face off against the Bethel Bees at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Bethel will be up against a hot Covington squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Buccs put the hurt on Troy Christian with a sharp 13-2 win on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Buccs' most dominant victory of the season.

Bethel came out on top against Riverside on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Bees blew past the Pirates 14-5. Considering the Bees have won four games by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Bethel got a massive performance out of Nolan Mathenia, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave Mathenia a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anderson Mohler, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Bethel's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Covington, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Covington suffered a grim 19-6 defeat to Bethel when the teams last played on April 2nd. Can the Buccs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
