Basketball Recap: Hammond Academy of Science & Tech Takes a Loss

Hammond Academy of Science & Tech lost against Trinity Greenlawn back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Hammond Academy of Science & Tech Hawks fell 36-29 to the Trinity Greenlawn Titans. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Hammond Academy of Science & Tech saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jalil Powell posted 19 points. Gevon Rogers also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Even though they lost, Hammond Academy of Science & Tech smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matches.

Leading Trinity Greenlawn to victory were Nathan Skendzel and Nathan Palmer. Skendzel went 6 of 12 en route to 14 points and six rebounds, while Palmer earned 12 points.

Hammond Academy of Science & Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Trinity Greenlawn, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hammond Academy of Science & Tech will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Portage Christian at 7:00 p.m. on February 4th. Trinity Greenlawn also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against North Judson-San Pierre at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th.
