            Softball Recap: Calhoun Academy Cavaliers vs. Orangeburg Prep Indians        
        
		
        
        
            The home team had won the previous two meetings between Calhoun Academy and Orangeburg Prep, and Orangeburg Prep kept the tradition alive. The Cavaliers took  an  8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Indians this season,  with their most recent  defeat being a  13-1  loss  on Wednesday.
 Patterson Arrant put in work no matter where she played. She  struck out ten batters over  six innings while giving up just two earned  (and six unearned) runs off   six  hits. Arrant was also big at the plate,  going 1-for-3 with two  runs and one  double.
 In other batting news,  Sara Marshall Covington and  Sherrilynn Shannon did some serious damage despite the final result:  Covington  went 2-for-4 with two  doubles and one  RBI, while  Shannon  went 1-for-3 with one  home run.  Chapel Hollingsworth also deserves some recognition as  she  got her first  hit of the season.
Calhoun Academy's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Orangeburg Prep, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record  this season.
 Calhoun Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the  defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Holly Hill Academy at 6:30  p.m.  on  the 22nd. The Cavaliers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 12.5  runs per game this season. As for Orangeburg Prep, they have already played their next game,  a  10-5  loss against Hammond on the 14th.
