Volleyball Recap: Southwest Comes Up Short

Southwest suffered their biggest defeat since September 25th on Monday. They came up short against the Crane Pirates, falling 3-0.

Southwest was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The final score came out to 25-14, 25-22, 25-15.

When it comes to explaining why Southwest lost, don't look at Olivia Hnem. Despite the final result, she had 27 digs and two aces. Hnem is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last six games she's played. Abi Hnem was another key player, getting six digs and six assists.

Crane was led to victory by Madi Lansdown and Kayce McKnight. Lansdown had 30 digs and three aces, while McKnight had 24 assists and 12 digs. That's the most digs Lansdown has posted over her last 12 contests.

Southwest's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-16-3. As for Crane, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-12-3 record this season.

Southwest has already played their next match (against Exeter), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Crane, they will face off against Pleasant Hope at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
