Having just played yesterday, the Miller School of Albemarle Mavericks will jump right back in to play the Forsyth Country Day Furies at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Miller School of Albemarle waltzed into their contest Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past Cape Fear Academy, posting a 72-41 win on the road. Given Miller School of Albemarle's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked tenth in Virginia, while Cape Fear Academy is ranked 106th in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Miller School of Albemarle to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jason Clarke, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The match was Clarke's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Reece Hagy was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Forsyth Country Day came tearing into Thursday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2023 than the 78-46 stomp they got on the road against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy. That looming 78-46 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Forsyth Country Day yet this season.
Miller School of Albemarle's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Forsyth Country Day, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.
