Soccer Game Preview: New Braunfels vs. Smithson Valley

The New Braunfels Unicorns will venture away from home to square off against the Smithson Valley Rangers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Smithson Valley took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on New Braunfels, who comes in off a win.

New Braunfels' defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against Veterans Memorial by a score of 2-0. The Unicorns haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Ryder Mosqueda and Joshua Hinton scored both of New Braunfels' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 14 goals.

Meanwhile, Smithson Valley lost 5-1 to Pieper on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Rangers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 339th, while the Warriors are ranked 75th).

New Braunfels pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those five contests. As for Smithson Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.

New Braunfels beat Smithson Valley by a goal when the teams last played back in January, winning 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Braunfels since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
