3A Region I District 5 recap October 22, 2013

Vernon moved up to 219 from 248 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region I District 5. The Lions climbed the ranks as a result of beating Hirschi 28-8.

Graham extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Iowa Park, 45-3. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.

Ben Davis threw for 197 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 14-22 with 0 interceptions.

Davis put up the best numbers through the air as Graham beat the Hawks. Davis' favorite target this week was Bryce Reeves, who caught 8 passes for 139 yards.

Kenny Davidson's team's Davis and Reeves led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Davis has thrown for 2,146 yards this season, while Reeves has 43 catches for 809 yards. The Huskies' Cedrick Battle leads the league in rushing yards with 1,035.

Vernon's Orlando Haymon is a mere 1 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 70 carries Haymon has accumulated 999 yard this year.

An important game coming up in 3A Region I District 5 this week will be when Mark Bateman's team takes on the Bulldogs. The Lions are in second place, while Burkburnett is in fifth place.

Iowa Park fell to the Steers 45-3 last week, the largest margin of any game.
