Baseball Recap: Tanque Verde Wins Going Away Against Rincon/University

Tanque Verde's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Rincon/University Rangers as the Tanque Verde Hawks made off with a 17-5 victory. Considering the Hawks have won five games by more than ten runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Santino Celani made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liam Brunell, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Tanque Verde's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-0-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Landon Walker was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

Tanque Verde was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Tanque Verde's record now sits at 5-2-1. As for Rincon/University, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Coming up, Tanque Verde will take on Sunnyside in a tournament on Thursday. Sunnyside's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Tanque Verde's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Rincon/University has already played their next match (against Flagstaff), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
