Football Recap: Jack Abbott Key Part of Team Effort in Grizzlies Win

The third road contest was the charm for Los Osos, as they earned their first away win of the season. They strolled past the Sultana Sultans with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 31-12. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Grizzlies also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

Los Osos got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jack Abbott out in front who picked up 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Those 108 receiving yards gave Abbott a new career-high. Isaiah Guerrero was another key signal caller, throwing for 175 yards and three TDs.

Los Osos didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Sultana to a completion percentage of just 47.1%. The team can thank Aaven Bishop for the heroic effort on defense: he. Los Osos wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 55.6%.

Los Osos didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jacob Castro, Jaxon Bailey, Isaiah Stewart, and Drew Gaither picked up one apiece. Bailey got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Sultana's loss came despite strong showings from Dell Hester and Joanathan Silva. Hester rushed for 83 yards and one score on only ten carries, while Silva picked up 94 receiving yards and one touchdown. Silva was even better on defense, forcing one fumble and making nine total tackles in addition to snagging an interception.

With the win, Los Osos broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-3. As for Sultana, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Los Osos and Sultana will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Grizzlies see the field they'll take on Claremont at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. As for Sultana, their break will end when they face Burroughs at 7:00 p.m. on October 3.
