Baseball Recap: Gloucester Catholic Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Cherokee

Gloucester Catholic faced Cherokee in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Rams took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chiefs. It was the first time this season that the Rams let down their fans at home.

Jackson Smallets was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

This is the second loss in a row for Gloucester Catholic and nudges their season record down to 15-2. As for Cherokee, their win bumped their record up to 20-1.

Looking ahead, Gloucester Catholic will square off against Gloucester County Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cherokee, they will challenge Bridgewater-Raritan at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
