Basketball Game Preview: DeMatha Stags vs. Archbishop Carroll Lions

DeMatha is 9-1 against Archbishop Carroll since January of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The DeMatha Stags will venture away from home to challenge the Archbishop Carroll Lions at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in DeMatha's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.

On Wednesday, DeMatha was able to grind out a solid victory over Our Lady of Good Counsel, taking the game 66-55. Given the Stags' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while the Falcons are ranked 38th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ashton (Ace) Meeks was his usual excellent self, going 13 for 23 en route to 35 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Charles Thomas, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 17 points.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Archbishop Carroll took on Bishop Ireton on Tuesday. Archbishop Carroll escaped with a win against Bishop Ireton by the margin of a single free throw, 64-63.

Archbishop Carroll's win bumped their record up to 13-10. As for DeMatha, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-5.

DeMatha strolled past Archbishop Carroll in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 75-60. The rematch might be a little tougher for DeMatha since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
