Baseball Game Preview: Erie-Prophetstown Panthers vs. Fulton Steamers

The Erie-Prophetstown Panthers will face off against the Fulton Steamers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Erie-Prophetstown will be strutting in after a win while Fulton will be coming in after a loss.

Erie-Prophetstown took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Newman Central Catholic, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Comets on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since April 10th.

The team relied heavily on Parker Rangel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Evan Steimle was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Fulton came up short against Rock Falls on Wednesday and fell 6-2. The Steamers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The victory made it two in a row for Erie-Prophetstown and bumps their season record up to 6-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Fulton, their loss dropped their record down to 13-13.

Erie-Prophetstown skirted past Fulton 14-13 in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Steamers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
