Softball Recap: Canton Turns Things Around After Road Loss

Canton's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Havana on Saturday. Canton's pitcher stepped up to hand the Williamsfield COUGARS a 14-0 shutout. The Little Giants not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21, 2024.

Lilliana Horton made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That one hit allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Canton let Averi Smith and Makaylynne Correa run wild. Smith scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Correa scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in RBI (three). Emma Turner was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

The win got Canton back to even at 1-1.

Coincidentally, Canton and Williamsfield will both be playing Kewanee the next time they take the field. Canton will head out to face Kewanee at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Williamsfield will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
