Baseball Game Preview: Hoke County Bucks vs. Lumberton Pirates

Hoke County is 2-8 against Lumberton since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Hoke County Bucks will venture away from home to face off against the Lumberton Pirates at 7:00 p.m.

Hoke County fell victim to Scotland and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fighting Scots. The game marked the first time this year in which the Bucks were not able to get on the board.

Carson Hewitt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Lumberton won against Cape Fear on Tuesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Lumberton blew past Jack Britt 10-2. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

The victory got Lumberton back to even at 2-2. As for Hoke County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Hoke County suffered a grim 16-4 defeat to Lumberton in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Hoke County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
