Baseball Game Preview: Clearwater Tornadoes vs. Boca Ciega Pirates

Clearwater is 8-2 against Boca Ciega since February of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Clearwater Tornadoes will head out on the road to face off against the Boca Ciega Pirates at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clearwater has four straight victories, Boca Ciega has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Clearwater is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Blake on Thursday as Clearwater made off with a 14-4 win. With that victory, the Tornadoes brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Gerardo Reyes looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Clearwater saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ty Woodring, who scored four runs and stole Three bases. while going 4-for-5. Those four runs gave Woodring a new career-high. Landon Kauble was another, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

Clearwater was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Boca Ciega came up short against Pinellas Park on Monday and fell 5-2.

Evan Hall and Elliot Doughty did some serious damage despite the final result: Hall went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Doughty scored a run while going 2-for-3. That RBI marked the first that Hall brought in this season.

Clearwater's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Boca Ciega, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

Clearwater skirted past Boca Ciega 5-4 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clearwater since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
