Basketball Game Preview: Greeley West Spartans vs. Mountain View Mountain Lions

The Greeley West Spartans will challenge the Mountain View Mountain Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 16 consecutive losses dating back to last season for Greeley West and five for Mountain View dating back to last season.

Greeley West's tournament run continued when they took on Evergreen on Saturday. Greeley West was beaten by Evergreen 79-47.

Despite the loss, Greeley West had strong showings from Marcus Casillas, who went 6 of 10 en route to 17 points, and Joey Castillo, who posted nine points.

Meanwhile, Mountain View came up short against Severance on Tuesday and fell 61-52.

Greeley West will need focus on slowing down Dylan Garland, one of several Mountain View players who made an impact when they last played. He had 12 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Mares-Benz, who put up eight points and six rebounds.

Greeley West's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Mountain View, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Greeley West has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 22.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Greeley West took their win against Mountain View in their previous matchup back in December of 2019 by a conclusive 62-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Greeley West since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
