It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Avalon had no problem doing just that on Friday. They put the hurt on the Miller Grove Hornets with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

John De La Garza made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Shawn McEwen was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Josh Novak was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Avalon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Avalon's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Miller Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.

Avalon will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Hornets: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
