Volleyball Game Preview: Maine West Warriors vs. Leyden Eagles

Maine West is a perfect 3-0 against Leyden since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Warriors will host the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Leyden will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Maine West extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Warriors came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against Prospect.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Maine West got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 21-25, 25-21.

Maine West's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Peter Dempsey, who had 24 assists, and Donovan Brown, who had six kills. Dempsey is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 12 or more in each of the last 24 games he's played.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Leyden, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Proviso West on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since May 6th.

Leyden had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-20, 25-21.

Leyden's victory bumped their record up to 14-18. As for Maine West, their win bumped their record up to 28-5.

Maine West beat Leyden 2-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
