Basketball Recap: West Bladen Snaps Nine-Game Streak of Losses at Home

There's no place like home for West Bladen, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They pulled ahead with a 54-53 photo finish over the South Columbus Stallions on Thursday. The Knights have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Stallions, too.

West Bladen was led to victory by Alina Chavez and Kali Allen. Chavez almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards, while Allen went 5 of 12 on her way to 18 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Holland Davis, who posted ten points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

West Bladen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why South Columbus lost, don't look at Trinity Strickland. Despite the final result, she went 10 of 18 on her way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karys Townsend, who had 13 points in addition to five assists and five steals.

West Bladen's victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-7. As for South Columbus, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.

West Bladen will square off against St. Pauls at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Pauls is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season. As for South Columbus, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-19 loss against East Columbus on the 3rd.
