Volleyball Game Preview: St. Mary's Prep Eaglets vs. Lutheran North Mustangs

St. Mary's Prep is 6-1 against Lutheran North since October of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Eaglets will square off against the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. St. Mary's Prep will be looking to extend their current 18-game winning streak.

St. Mary's Prep had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt St. Catherine of Siena Academy on Monday. The Eaglets blew past the Athletes 3-0.

While St. Mary's Prep won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-21, 28-26.

Lindsey Schwegman and Ava Merlo were among the main playmakers for St. Mary's Prep as the former had nine digs and two aces and the latter had 18 digs and two aces. Schwegman is also crushing it when it comes to assists: she's posted at least 12 every time she's taken the court this season.

Divine Child typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Lutheran North proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged out the Falcons 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since September 10th.

Lutheran North was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (102-92), but they still managed to win. The match finished with set scores of 15-25, 25-22, 12-25, 25-20, 15-10.

St. Mary's Prep's record is now 26-6-4. As for Lutheran North, their record now sits at 16-7.

Everything went St. Mary's Prep's way against Lutheran North in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as St. Mary's Prep made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eaglets since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
