Preview: South Amboy Governors vs. Keyport Raiders
The South Amboy Governors will head out on the road to face off against the Keyport Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Monday, South Amboy ended up a good deal behind Dunellen and lost 35-19. While losing is never fun, South Amboy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 334th, while Dunellen is ranked 145th).
Meanwhile, Keyport unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They were dealt a 58-21 loss at the hands of Shore Regional. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Keyport has suffered yet this season.
South Amboy's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for Keyport, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
South Amboy lost to Keyport on the road by a decisive 42-24 margin in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can South Amboy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
