Softball Recap: Powell County Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Powell County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They blew past the Menifee County Wildcats 13-2 on Wednesday. Considering the Pirates have won four matches by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kylie Shick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Shick was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Slone, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Emma Rison also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Powell County's record now sits at 4-6. As for Menifee County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Powell County will square off against Buckhorn at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Menifee County, they will venture away from home to challenge Bath County at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.
