Softball Recap: Oakland Drops Highest Score of Season Against Blackman

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oakland). They put the hurt on the Blackman Blaze with a sharp 16-1 victory on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Blaze: they've now won eight in a row.

Kyleigh Higgs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alli Monnin was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chloe Aaron, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.

Oakland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Oakland's record now sits at 13-3-1. As for Blackman, their record is now 10-9.

Coming up, Oakland will face off against Chelsea at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Patriots 2.1, the Hornets 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Blackman, they will square off against Franklin County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
