Football Recap: Woodland Extends Home Winning Streak to 16

Woodland had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They breezed by the Talihina Golden Tigers to the tune of 58-23 on Friday. Fans of the Cougars have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

It was another big night for Trey Bennett, who rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 155 yards and two touchdowns while completing 90.9% of his passes. What's more, he also racked up 169.5 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September. Jaston Terry was another key player, gaining 172 total yards and two touchdowns.

Bennett was just one part of a punishing run game: Woodland was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 359 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

One reason for the win was Woodland's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. In that department, Derrick Kennedy was the leader with two. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 11.

Talihina's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landen Griffith, who threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns. 80 of those passing yards were hauled in by Noah Lloyd, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Woodland's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 36.6 points. As for Talihina, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-2.

As of now, neither Woodland nor Talihina have any future games scheduled.
