Preview: Smithville Tigers vs. La Grange Leopards
Smithville is 1-9 against La Grange since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Smithville Tigers will be staying on the road to face off against the La Grange Leopards at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, Smithville didn't have too much trouble with Caldwell on the road as they won 49-30.
Meanwhile, La Grange scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by El Campo at home to the tune of 69-22. Given La Grange's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 612th, while El Campo is ranked 1406th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
La Grange got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Landri Hernandez out in front who scored 21 points along with six steals. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for Hernandez. Another player making a difference was Campbell Cooper, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Smithville now has a winning record of 6-5. As for La Grange, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Smithville was dealt a bruising 69-27 defeat at the hands of La Grange in their previous matchup back in January. Thankfully for Smithville, Keslyn Davis (who scored 16 points along with nine steals and six assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
