Basketball Recap: Sabino Skates Past Palo Verde with Ease

Sabino won the last time they faced Palo Verde and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Sabino Sabercats took their contest with ease, bagging a 69-24 win over the Palo Verde Titans. Given the Sabercats' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Titans are ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Sabino to victory were Jayda Haley and Marie Gomez-Munoz. Haley went 8 for 10 on her way to 16 points and three steals, while Gomez-Munoz went 5 of 7 en route to 11 points. What's more, Gomez-Munoz also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Melia Graham, who posted seven points.

Sabino was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Sabino and bumps their season record up to 13-9. As for Palo Verde, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Sabino won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Tanque Verde at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Palo Verde has already played their next contest (against Sahuarita), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
