Basketball Recap: Holcomb Longhorns vs. Goodland Cowboys
After flying high against the Hugoton Eagles last Tuesday, the Holcomb Longhorns came back down to earth. Holcomb fell 50-41 to the Cowboys on Friday. Holcomb was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cowboys apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, Holcomb still got an impressive performance from Halle Jones, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Jones hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Jera Kruleski, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Holcomb's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Goodland, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holcomb will take on the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ulysses will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 240th, while the Longhorns are ranked 44th). As for Goodland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
