Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Mustangs vs. Solon Spartans

For the first time this season, Mt. Vernon will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to challenge the Solon Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

On Tuesday, Mt. Vernon came up short against Linn-Mar and fell 7-2. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, Solon didn't have quite enough to beat Xavier on Tuesday and fell 2-1. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mt. Vernon fell to 2-1. As for Solon, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Mt. Vernon skirted past Solon 6-5 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
