Preview: Sahuaro Cougars vs. Buena Colts
Sahuaro is 9-1 against Buena since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Sahuaro Cougars just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Buena Colts at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact Sahuaro proved on Thursday. They came out on top against Pueblo by a score of 59-50. The victory was just what Sahuaro needed coming off of a 68-37 defeat in their prior matchup.
Sahuaro relied on the efforts of Ny'Anza Brown, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds, and Cassandra Coolidge, who scored 26 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Coolidge pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kristen Valdez, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Buena scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They blew past Desert View 76-10 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Buena has managed all season.
Sahuaro has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. As for Buena, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.
Everything came up roses for Sahuaro against Buena in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 75-31 win. With Sahuaro ahead 47-12 at the half, the match was all but over already.
