Football Game Preview: Waterford Wildcats vs. Danville Blue Devils

The Waterford Wildcats will take on the Danville Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Waterford is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They breezed past Strasburg-Franklin to the tune of 42-7. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

It was another big night for Hayden Jones, who rushed for 76 yards and a pair of scores, and also picked up 46 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Waterford was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 252 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Danville). They claimed a resounding 59-8 victory over Fisher Catholic.

Danville's win came from a few key players Waterford will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cyren Wallace, who rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. He has become a key player for Danville: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 0-4 otherwise. Briggs Wallace was another key player, picking up 155 receiving yards and one TD.

Danville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Wesley Payne, Wallace, and Carson Proper picked up one apiece. Wallace's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 115 rushing yards. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Danville's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Waterford, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
