Softball Game Preview: Sandwich Indians vs. Plainfield South Cougars

The Sandwich Indians will face off against the Plainfield South Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Sandwich will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Somonauk on Thursday. Sandwich put the hurt on Somonauk with a sharp 10-3 victory. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Paige Danner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kayden Corneils, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 5-for-5. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kendal Petre, who scored a run while going 4-for-4.

Sandwich always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Somonauk only posted an OBP of .300.

Meanwhile, Plainfield South won against Willowbrook on Wednesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Plainfield South beat Metea Valley by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Plainfield South's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Sandwich, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Sandwich couldn't quite finish off Plainfield South when the teams last played back in March of 2023 and fell 6-4. Can Sandwich avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
