2A District 8 recap November 5, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Korey Zeigler and Daniel Hollander connected against St. Helena Central. The longest such play in 2A District 8 this season, the connection resulted in 86 yards.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Northlake Christian beat Pine 48-44. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Zeigler threw for 254 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 20-26 with 1 interception.
Hollander was the best receiver in the league this week as Archbishop Hannan bested the Hawks. Hollander tallied 5 receptions for 125 yards. Kyle Sewald helped Archbishop Hannan's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 69 yards.
The Hawks' Zeigler and Hollander have formed a dream team this season, leading 2A District 8 in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Zeigler has thrown for 1,248 yards this season, while Hollander has 34 catches for 524 yards. The Raiders' Derrick Dillon leads the league in rushing yards with 1,593.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Northlake Christian takes on Pope John Paul II. As it stands, Anthony Agresta's team is in first, while the Jaguars are in third.
The Wolverines and Pine played the closest game in the league this week, with the Wolverines eventually emerging with a 48-44 victory. Josh O'Rear threw for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 66 yards in the win.
