Football Game Preview: Mercedes Tigers vs. Porter Cowboys

Mercedes has gone a perfect 6-0 against Porter recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Tigers will host the Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. Mercedes will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

On Friday, everything came up roses for Mercedes against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest as the squad secured a 48-7 victory. Considering the Tigers have won five contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Mercedes had a senior duo take command as Robert Sanchez rushed for 135 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries and Diego Bravo rushed for 47 yards and one score. Sanchez has been hot, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last five times he's played.

Mercedes was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 376 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

One reason for the win was Mercedes' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Nate Gonzalez with two.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Porter, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lopez on Thursday, sneaking past 23-21.

Porter's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Mercedes, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0.

Everything came up roses for Mercedes against Porter in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 56-13 win. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cowboys turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
