Basketball Recap: Paul 'Ryan' Carter's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Houston County over Perry County

Houston County fought the good fight in their overtime game against Perry County on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 68-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Perry County Vikings. The Fighting Irish have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Houston County lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Paul 'Ryan' Carter, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. He is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 14 games he's played. Mac Baggett was another key player, shooting 46% from the field on his way to 14 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Perry County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Colton Pevahouse, who went 11-for-23 en route to 31 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Pevahouse is becoming a predictor of Perry County's success: when he posts at least 25 points the team is undefeated (and 8-17 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Mercer, who shot 67% from the field to rack up 23 points and five boards.

Houston County's record is now 14-14. As for Perry County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-17.

Houston County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Perry County, they will be taking part in a tournament against Wayne County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Wayne County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests.
