Football Recap: Central East Skates Past Clovis East with Ease

Central East extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 6-1. They blew past the Clovis East Timberwolves, posting a 50-20 win. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 50-14.

Jelani Dippel produced another solid effort throwing for 426 yards and six TDs while completing 73.5% of his passes, and also rushing for 62 yards and one score. He has been hot, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last five times he's played. Titus Thomas was another key player, picking up 121 receiving yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Central East was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 211 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 204 rushing yards in five consecutive games.

Central East didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Chris Perry and Brandon Smith.

As for Clovis East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 5-1 Clovis West (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 84.5% over those games).

Clovis East lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Lindsey Graves, who rushed for 69 yards on only nine carries, and also picked up 49 receiving yards. Another big playmaker for Clovis East was Oshea Webb, who returned a punt for a touchdown.

Central East has already played their next matchup, a 46-39 victory against Clovis West on the 16th. As for Clovis East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 42-15 loss against Clovis on the 17th.
